Pat & Rose: Baby on the Way!

My best friend is pregnant and I couldn't be more excited. A week or two ago we set out to capture the beauty of her pregnancy.

Rose and Pat are waiting to find out if they are going to have a boy or a girl. I am so excited to find out. This is actually a good thing for my wallet, as I already bought her both a little boy and a little girl outfit, but I know if I knew what she was having I would be buying things all the time!

They just celebrated their 1st anniversary and decided to have a photo shoot to celebrate making through their first year as Mr. & Mrs. Harder. I am sitting here tonight exhausted from the events of today, yet unable to sleep.
My mind is wandering. Overwhelmed.
My little sister just graduated tonight. She made it through high school and is now an adult.
Tomorrow I will graduate from WOU.
I will really be an adult. An adult with a Bachelors degree.

Last weekend Desirae and I had a sleepover as we finished her photo board for the graduation service at our church. In the morning she let me doll her up, style her hair and do her make-up so we could capture a few more images of her before she was a high school graduate. These are what we ended up with.

Engaged: Shelby & Travis

Shelby & Travis arrived to their engagement session yesterday afternoon bearing gifts. For me! They were kind enough to have noticed that my birthday is in a week and decided to bring me a little treat from their neck of the woods, a delicious chocolate-marble muffin from myfavoritemuffin. Although the muffin fell greatly outside the parameters of my P90X "diet" I had to indulge, it would be rude not to, right?I had so much fun with the two of them. They are a great couple and complement each other so well. I can't wait for their wedding in July!

Paul, Ashley & their son Westley met me at Mission Mill for their family Christmas session. We had a great time taking pictures and watching Westley run around and play. He is such a cute little guy- definitely a boy's boy- he was much more interested in playing in the dirt and rocks than taking pictures!

Stephanie & Lucas braved the cold weather and rain for what turned out to be a great maternity shoot. We started at Deepwood Estate and when we got tired of being out in the cold and rain we headed to the Salem Conference Center for some of their great indoor natural light.

Stephanie is gorgeous, and from what I can tell from her interactions with her niece at our shoot is going to be a GREAT mom. Thank you both for such a fun afternoon!

This first shot is my favorite of the day. Love it.

Family Time

This past Sunday afternoon my family and I set out to try and capture some group portraits that my mom has been wanting them for quite a while.

We ended up with a couple great shots, which were harder than they look because I don't have a remote for my camera, so each shot entailed pressing the button and running over to my family, trying to look relaxed -but ending up looking a little flustered in most shots. I think I will hire a professional for our family shoot next time ;)!

I also took some shots of just my mom and dad. My dad just lost over 35 pounds and he is looking great!

Today I was blessed with the opportunity to spend the day with this little man who has stolen part of my heart. Thanks for calling me Amber & Rod!

Seriously... it is a good thing I am not his parent, because he would get his way 99.9% of the time and I would end up creating a monster! He is just too cute to say no to.

We spent the day doing things any three year old would love: going on a walk to the store, baking cookies, playing football, drawing with chalk, reading books, watching A Bug's Life, and playing in the dirt. Somehow I was able to talk(bribe) him into taking a few photos as well.

Matt: 2010 Senior Rep

Matt is my final 2010 Rep and a Senior at Western Mennonite. Although we go to the same church, the Saturday we had his session was the first time I we actually met. I am always a little nervous when I have a shoot with someone I haven't met with before, but of course I had a great time walking around downtown and getting to know Matt.

My Senior Reps are seriously AMAZING. Matt plays Varsity soccer and wants to go to school to be an Air Traffic Controller. How cool is that?

Matt, thank you so much for being so easy to photograph. I had a great time getting to know you and can't wait to head up to the mountains with you and Zac! Here are some of my favorites.

My favorite subject

I know it is a little biased to say I have a favorite subject. But I do.

For about nine years now she has been indulging me as my ever willing and always gorgeous model. She never turns me down for an idea, and needs no direction for poses, head tilts or placement of her hands. I think she had the whole modeling thing down at the mere age of four.

Jenna, I love you more than you will ever know. I am so blessed to have you as my baby sister.

These shots are from a mini-shoot we did today while searching for sunflowers at the South Salem Community Garden.

We met the coordinator of the garden, she was great and showed us all the different veggies that different people had grown.

The photo on the right is a brussel sprout plant!?! Did you know it looked like that?

And did you know that artichokes bloom if you don't pick them? The photo on the left is an artichoke.

Let me start this post off by telling you that what you are about to see it TOP SECRET. If you know Jessica or her husband, you can't mention that you saw these photos because Jess decided to get them done as a surprise for her husband, so don't tell.

I first met Jessica while I was working at the Boy's & Girl's Club. She is now the Teen Center Director, and spends her days making sure the teenagers in Salem have a fun and safe place to hang out after school. Not only does she have a heart for service, she is also hilarious and gorgeous. Hello, does she seriously look like this 5 months pregnant?

I had an amazing time with you Jess. Thank you for giving me the honor of taking your photos. Jeff is going to LOVE them.

I am blessed to be able to have jobs that I love.

I am blessed to have my job as a photographer where my clients truly become friends, and where I walk away from "a day at the office" feeling refreshed, hopeful and blessed to have had the opportunity to be around people during their most special moments in life.

Jimmy & Annette were married at the Trout Creek Bible Camp in Corbett, OR. Trout Creek is where they first met while being camp counselors at summer camp and it was only fitting that they return for their wedding. Trout Creek also happens to be where Annette's Mom and Dad met. Could that be any cuter?

The clouds opened up and rained buckets on their wedding day, but if you looked at the permanent grin on both Annette & Jim's faces you would have thought they planned the rain! They were the ideal couple, no stress or worries because they were getting MARRIED!

Jimmy & Annette, I hope you know how much I love you both. From the moment we first talked on the phone and then again when we met to discuss your day, I knew it would be wonderful. I have never left a wedding feeling so hopeful and excited for a couples future. Sometime throughout the day I think I caught Annette's grin because was smiling the whole drive home. You two are perfect together, thanks for letting me be a part of your day.

Isn't it crazy how you can know someone since they were just a tiny babe growing inside their mother to the point that they are now an adult, and it seems like somewhere you missed something. That he should still be that five year old little boy... but he isn't, he grew up.

I have known Zac his whole life.I was lucky enough to be best friends with his sister, and have our families be the best of friends all throughout my childhood. I am very lucky to have him as one of my 2010 Senior Reps! I seriously couldn't have asked for any better Seniors to have represent me this year.

Thanks Zac! I had a great time hanging out and being scared for your life as you back flipped off buildings! Here are a couple of my favorites from our first session.

Brittany, Raymond and Baby ?

It is almost unheard of these days and something that my lack of patience (and desire to shop) would never allow me to do... waiting to find out the sex of ones baby.

Brittany & Raymond did, and they are now nearing the end of their (extremely long) wait to find out if they will have a son or daughter for their firstborn child. The nursery is finished in an adorable brown, green, red, blue & yellow color scheme that will be perfect for either a boy or a girl. Brittany has bought a "coming home" outfit for each possibility, and they almost have two names decided.

I am so thankful for the opportunity to have you three as my first maternity session. Brittany, you are beautiful and you are going to be an amazing mother. And Raymond, you are going to be an awesome father, you seem so thrilled to be a Dad!

You were a joy to work with, thanks for braving the heat (it was a 100 degrees on the day of our shoot). I can't wait to find out if you are blessed with a boy or a girl!

Caley: 2010 Senior Rep

As today's shoot went on and the more I got to know Caley, the more I ended up just loving her.
She is a homeschooled senior who is actively involved in her youth group at Salem Heights, loves the outdoors (hiking/camping/snowboarding...) AND is an aspiring photographer who just got her first DSLR camera! I can't wait to see how quickly her passion for photography will be transformed from just a hobby to a career. This girl is going places! Here are a couple of shots from today. I literally have hundreds of great ones, so Iwill be updating this as I edit more.

After spending countless hours "blog-stalking" my favorite photographers and loving the photos I saw, I realized my time could be better spent. Instead of spending an hour a day relaxing by looking at the most recent sessions of other photographers I could be out there creating, learning and growing by DOING. It was with this realization that I decided to contact a few of my friends who have the style & personalities that I have been dying to shoot. I need to step out there and create in order to further expand and define my style.

Enter: Sam & Guy.
Her beautiful red hair, gorgeous eyes and eyelashes that have had me filled with envy for years were only a few of the reason I was dying to photograph her. When I saw photos of her and her boyfriend Guy on Facebook, I just knew I had to photograph them. Lucky for me they agreed.
Although it was my first time meeting Guy, I felt as though I had known him for years. They are one of those couples that have so much joy & love in their relationship that everyone around feels it too.

Missing a boy...

Natalie (my bff) and I had the amazing job of being his babysitter(s) for the first two years of his life and we both had to stop this year due to work & school time conflicts. I was going through old photos and found this shot from one of the many days I tortured him with my camera.

Love Affair Workshop

Sometime last year I came across the website http://www.loveaffairworkshop.com. I fell in love with the idea that a group of amazing photographers (all women) could get together and learn from each other and have a chance to build their businesses with the help of others. I read about what they did during the workshop but most of all I looked at the photos taken. The images were filled with love and happiness. Filled with LIFE. The four photographers who put on this amazing workshop are such amazing women. I would love to be able to go to the workshop this summer, and since they are offering a scholarship-ed spot at the workshop maybe I will... Wish me luck!

Spring

Spring is here and I am loving it. I decided I needed to have weekends off this term (for relaxation & photo shoots) so I am now a free lady 1/2 the day on Fridays and all day on Saturday and Sundays. Amazing. So now that we have a yard I got out last weekend and planted sunflowers, cucumbers, spinach, and watermelon and I still want to plant tomatoes and another fruit- blueberries maybe. Since I have never really planted anything before I am a little nervous that they won't end up growing so any advice would be wonderful.

It's a Baby Shower!

This shower was extra special to me as it was for my husband's sister Julie. She was pregnant with her first child and her beautiful baby shower was scheduled over a month before she was due. Turns out her little girl was a little going a little stir crazy and wanted to get out of there early... Julie was in pain starting the morning of her shower, and it turns out she was in early labor. She made it through her shower, but that night Kevin had to take her to the Salem Hospital and she ended up having an emergency c-section! Baby Addison was born around 10:30 pm on Saturday, January 31st. Welcome Addison! Here are some of the pictures from her shower.

I am nowhere near finished editing Emily's pictures and I have 3 sessions to finish before I finish editing hers, BUT... I had to put up a few pictures for her family to gush over. This girl is amazing. She runs cross country, is going to be in the musical Godspell, is in the choir at Sprague, gets amazing grades AND she is planning heading off to college and eventually MEDICAL school. I can't wait to watch her succeed in whatever path she decides to take.

Amanda officially starts her last year of high school on Wednesday, and I am happy to say she goes to the same high school I did. I had so much fun spending the morning with Amanda, her mom, sister and one of her dear friends, she really had quite the entourage. She was so fun to photograph & even climbed a light post during our session for the sake of photography (or maybe it was for comedic relief). At 1:30 this afternoon I got a phone call from my mom, "Barb has Isabella today...". So I definitely hopped in the shower and was at their house at 2:15, I couldn't wait to take these pictures! The Schubert's have been family friends forever and their son John & Liz had their beautiful baby Isabella exactly 5 weeks ago today. She is so precious and did a great job as we passed her around, took off her clothes and took loads of pictures of her. Here are a few that I love- I will post more later!

Today I decided that is a really good thing that in addition to photography I work at a middle school and at the boy's & girl's club. You see, after taking pictures of all these adorable infants, toddlers & lil' kids it could really make a person want to take that leap into parenthood. Every weekend I take pictures and think about how precious they are, but then Monday rolls around and I remember that eventually these adorable babes become adorable little kids who then become not so adorable 1-12th graders that I deal with on a daily basis. For now I will stick to photographing the babies, cause I'm not ready for the rest....

Here are some of the photos I took while babysitting today. We always have so much fun while I am there, but most the time I forget to bring my camera. Fortunately I remembered today and was able to get some pretty cute photos of my main little man. It is crazy how much he has grown since we (Natalie & I) started watching him. Back then he couldn't even roll over and now he is talking, running & jumping!

Over Memorial Day weekend Aaron and I took a little trip down to the seaside town of Bandon Oregon. We had so much fun and we were able to see so many beautiful animals. As I took their pictures I was constantly amazed at all the little details perfectly placed on each one. How can one look at a peacock and not know that there is a loving God who created us all?
